Spring Run Nenagh April 2013

The first Rally of the Model T Ford Club 2013 Season took place on Sunday 14th April 2013.

The Rally was based this year in Nenagh, Co Tipperary and hosted by our Adare members. David and Marian Cuddy ably assisted by family members including grandson James who is not quite old enough to take the wheel just yet, but no doubt will be in a few years time!

We gathered in the car park of the Abbey Court Hotel for pre run refreshments before taking to the roads in uncertain looking weather conditions namely a showery/sunny but breezy outlook. Spring Irish style! Our first stop was in the picturesque village of Garrykennedy on the shores of Lough Derg where we were treated to even more delicious refreshments in Larkin’s Bar.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of our Club is the social side, chatting with other members from all over the country. The Spring Run is a great opportunity to catch up with news after the Winter months when there is little or no activity with our cars. We left Garrykennedy and headed in the direction of Ballina and Killaloe.  he road took us alongside Lough Derg and we stopped at a lookout along the ay to view the Lake and take some photographs.

The weather was changing all the while with squally rain and occasional bursts of sunshine. The only consistent feature of the weather was the extremely strong wind which followed us all the way to the Lakeside Hotel in Ballina where we enjoyed a wonderful lunch, during which we welcomed new members John and Sarah Daly, Joe O’Sullivan with his navigator Mark and Noel O’Shea all on their first T Run with us.

A special mention of course to our recently elected President Michael Rigney and his wife Joan who are loyal members and attend all T Rallies around the country. We welcomed him on his first run as President and wish him well in his term of office.

After the leisurely break we returned to our cars for the return journey to Nenagh. All returned safely and in good ime for our homeward trip. All in all, a most successful day out. No breakdowns or problems with the cars and it can be safely reported that a great day was had by all!

A big “Thank You” to David and Marian Cuddy together with their son William, daughter Caroline, her husband Donnacha and little James. A special mention is due to the small army of stewards for their work in guiding us in the right directions and of course the backup truck which was not needed on this occasion, but nevertheless is a vital resource to have available.

The Cuddy family also generously sponsored the pre Rally reception in the Abbey Court Hotel as well as the mid-morning coffee stop at Larkin’s in Garrykennedy for which we thank them most sincerely. We look forward already to our next run!!
