West Waterford May 2017

Our Club’s Annual Spring Run in West Waterford took place on Sunday 21st May 2017.

We gathered at the home of Tim and Elizabeth, overlooking Youghal Bay where the majestic River Blackwater joins the Atlantic Ocean for morning coffee, tea and goodies to sustain us on the first leg of our run.

We were delighted to have our newly elected President, Raymond Megaw and his wife Olene. They were accompanied by new member George Fulton and his wife.

We were also delighted to have three Model T enthusiasts Pete, Nancy and Luiigi, all the way from Connecticut, USA who were on holiday in Ireland and were thrilled to take part in an Irish T Rally.

They appreciated very much the drive in a variety of cars: John Daly and Sarah in their beautiful Fordor, Paul Murphy in his Roadster, Eamon Dunne in his 1915 Touring Car and Tim Crowley in his 1914 Touring Car. Thank you gentlemen for looking after our guests from USA. By the way Peter is President of the Four Seasons Model T Association in Connecticut USA. Good to have you here.

Morning coffee and delicious savories confectionery was to hand thanks to Elizabeth’s culinary skills and the newly formed catering crew made everyone welcome as they enjoyed the morning sustenance. Weather was dry and cloudy with a fresh breeze.

Our journey to our first stop, Whiting Bay, took us along lovely winding country roads and, as usual, people were out in their gardens waving and taking photos of our beautiful cars as we passed by.

A minority of members did not understand the clear instructions that were presented at the outset where individual discretionary interpretation resulted in a counter flow on narrow rural boreens.

We arrived at Whiting Bay as the sun broke through for a while and we parked up to enjoy the lovely beach which is a very popular destination during the summer months for tourists and local families alike.

Back into our cars and we enjoyed some more gentle motoring to our next stop, the Marine Bar. This was one of the highlights of the day as we were treated to some music provided by Jerry Crowley, the lovely voice of Frances Brady and even some dancing! All this with tea and sandwiches. A truly memorable interlude indeed.

We headed back to Youghal and to our hosts’ Eternal Project’ for our annual inspection thereof before returning to our trailers to load up for home after a most enjoyable day.A special word of thanks to Tadhg and our backup vehicle which thankfully was not needed, but good to know he was there.

Thank you to Elizabeth and Tim for organising another run for our members.   Tim announced he is taking a break and next year he hopes that the May Spring run will be held in Callen, Co. Kilkenny hosted by Jerry & Una Crowley. Our audience expressed their appreciation to Tim and Elizabeth acknowledging their contribution over many years passed.

We look forward to next year already!
