On the Sunday after Easter, David and Marian invited all members to attend at Adare for the first outing of the year for our club. We were greeted by their family and friends and invited to a morning reception of hot beverages and delicious savouries.
At the drivers’ briefing David outlined the route and distributed a written itinerary, map and directions. Each person present was given a complimentary woollen knitted cap, pink and blue to suit all.
Happily the day was sunny and dry. The growth of foliage emerging from the hedges and vista generally made for ideal conditions for motor cars of our vintage, particularly so because of the selected routes so free of traffic.
Our first stop was at a tea house situated on the banks of the river Shannon where across the estuary Shannon airport was in the distance view. A good choice for a refreshment break and time to chat among ourselves.
Off we went again with the motor cycle outriders manning each junction as we drove along making our travels safe and additionally enjoyable. It was in the form of a crisscross so to speak, absorbing the mileage in ideal conditions. We arrived at a large pier to take in the extensive riverside views and enjoy the ever so clean fresh air.
We enjoyed a mid afternoon lunch in the luxurious setting of Fitzpatrick’s Wood Lawn Hotel where we were served our Sunday four course lunch and trimmings.
Our President thanked David for his 21st Run and presented him with a hand turned bowl as a Commemoration of the event.
