Model T Run Easter Sunday April 2014

DAVID and MARIAN Cuddy hosts of Spring run 2014 Irish Model T Ford Club

The first run of the Irish Model T Ford Club took place on Easter Sunday
20 April 2014.

It was great to meet up again after a long wet winter and we caught up with news of fellow members over tea, coffee and buns.

This run was hosted as usual, by David and Marian Cuddy ably assisted by family members and a team of most efficient stewards who directed us on our way through the leafy roads of Co Limerick.

Our first stop was at the Old Irish Ways Museum near Meanus where we were treated to more refreshments before we went back in time to an Ireland of yore. The collection of memorabilia on show here is fascinating and brought back memories to most of us. We saw an old classroom complete with desks and books, etc. from bygone days.

The kitchen, with all the old utensils and gadgets, including an ingenious apparatus for peeling and coring apples – another for washing newly laid eggs had us all fascinated. The old shop stocked with goods from years gone by was set next to an old pub stocked with every beverage known to man!

We all assembled in front of the museum for a group photo in brilliant sunshine before cranking up and going on our merry way through Athlacca to our next stop outside Bruree to visit De Valera’s cottage.

This is a beautifully preserved piece of Irish history, being the place where DeValera spent his childhood with his grandmother and aunt while attending school in Bruree. We resumed our tour and travelled through some lovely countryside with Spring unfolding all around us.

Trees were pushing little green shoots, baby lambs in the fields and primroses were in abundance along the roadsides as we drove enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. It was wonderful. We arrived at the Woodlands House Hotel in Adare for an Easter carvery lunch which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Time then to reload our Ts and head for home, after a truly great start to our year. A big thank you to David, Marian and family.

A special word of thanks to the excellent stewards for helping to keep us safe and on the right roads! And of course to Tail End Charlie for being there and thankfully not needed.
We look forward to next time.
