St Patrick’s Day 2014

St Patrick’s Day 2014

The caption says it all.   Members in Cork were invited by The Right Honourable, The Lord Mayor of Cork, Councillor Clancy to chauffeur the grand marshal along escorting a convoy of Model T Fords.

Lord of the Dance Michael Flatley jetted in from London for the occasion.

The Chicago native said he was proud to lead the parade in his adopted home of Cork.  “Little did I think, growing up as the son of Irish emigrants on Chicago’s south side that I would be a future Grand Marshal for Ireland’s second largest city,” he said. “I am delighted to take part in the Cork St Patrick’s Festival as Grand Marshal. I am really proud of Cork.”

The chauffeur for the day was none other than our President Michael Rigney who did the honours for us.

What a proud day for our Club.

Earlier that morning the group participated in the St Patrick’s Day parade in the village of Glounthaune, Co. Cork.

It  is a shortish event – basically the parade starts at the Church, crosses the main road and runs down to the Village – of about 300 meters.

We meet up in line of sight of the Church and once Mass is over the parade is under way.

The village was thronged with people where Irish dancing was performed by the many groups on hand.

Conall Cuddy celebrated his 6th Birthday in style.

There was an abundance of catering facilities from cups of tea to curry beef and rice.

The point of the parade here was to ensure as far as is practical that all cars were running in readiness for the big one at 1:00 p.m.

One would imagine that two parades would be enough;  not for our enthusiasts!

Off we went again down to Midleton in time for the 3:00 parade.

Here we assembled at the Baby Walk at Irish Distilleries .

Once again the Ts were to the forefront with a Model TT Ton Truck leading the parade.
